On Sunday February 28 the most anticipated, nerve-wracking, heart stopping hockey game premiered on television and screens all over the country.
We counted down until this moment.
The Olympic Men's Hockey Final.
Canada against USA.
We had previously played America in a qualifying round in which we lost 3-5. But Canada managed to face their previous opponents again by narrowly defeating Slovakia 3-2.
Now the whole country is wondering, will we be able to defeat USA the second time around?

Canada led a 2 point lead before the US brutally fought back and tied the game with less than 30 seconds left before Canada would claim gold. The game went into 20 minutes of overtime during which I was so stressed for our team I almost had an aneurysm = = . Both sides played well but none could shoot a puck past the goalies.
Then at 7:40 into overtime, it happened.
Sidney Crosby shot a goal into Ryan Miller's net, and won the gold medal for Men's Hockey!
When I found out that we had won GOLD, I jumped up and screamed for 35 seconds and then I went and hugged my mom. I started crying because I was THAT happy our country won gold. Pathetic, but I was too delirious with joy to calm down. I don't think the USA knew how much this victory would mean to us. I mean, the whole country would change forever if we won the gold for hockey. Silver is just not enough, I'm afraid.
Something I thought was very interesting was that in both Men and Women's Hockey, the standings were: Canada first, USA second with Finland taking the Bronze. For Men and Women! That's pretty awesomesauce.
I'm so proud of Canada and of our athletes. What they do is amazing and gives inspiration to everyone that watches. Seriously, I may take up ice skating after watching the Olympics.

The closing ceremonies were ehhhhh okay :D
It wasn't bad, some parts of it I rather liked, but I felt like it could have been a lot better.
After the torch was extinguished and handed to Russia, our performances began.
There was this number called 'Made in Canada' sung by Micheal Buble. It was made to poke fun at the Canadian stereotypes and giant statues of mounties, beavers, mooses, and hockey players were brought out. I loved it, I thought it was great fun. ^^
But the speech by Cat O'Hara made me cringe as her jokes just were not funny. And what was with that mini concert with Nickleback, Hedley, Simple Plan and Avril? They didn't sing Canadian songs or even any songs relating to the Olympics at all. All the artists just picked their freshest and most popular song to sing. I enjoyed the performances very much but I just didn't get it.. I thought it could have been a little better.

Downtown Vancouver!
Photos aren't great and I only captured what I could see. But it's crazy in Vancity! Huge crowds of people everywhere, lineups for everything and everyone in a sea of red and white (with the occasional jersey for USA or Japan) ^^
crazy naked dude on a giant unicycle throwing swords.
