Introducing Maybelline new Eyestudio's Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner!
Sleek packaging. Gel Eyeliners come in glass pots with black plastic lids.
Inside the pots, there is a good, quarter size amount of product.
Clockwise from top left: Charcoal, Brown, Eggplant and Blackest Black.
Website states:
DEFINED LOOK
Define– in small strokes, glide liner across lash line from inner to outer corner
DRAMATIC LOOK
Define– in small strokes, glide liner across lash line from inner to outer corner
Enhance – extend and thicken line from outer corner up towards brow; wing out for extra drama
MY VERDICT:
Out of all the products I received in the Eyestudio kit, the Gel Eyeliners were my favorite.
They slide on so smoothly, have GREAT pigmentation and come in great colours. Black, brown, purple and blue.. the perfect liner shades.
The lasting properties are incredible, literally 24 hours (literally because I have not tested it, but I'm sure it can). Once, I swatched the colours on my hand before school. Throughout a normal day I wash, touch and sit on my hands (it's cold) and when I got home, the swatches have not BUDGED! After a long school day my lids get a little oily and it's great to see that my liner still looks great and no raccoon eyes!
After the Gel Liners dry, they're basically impervious to water, sweat and tears. You can rub it as hard as you can but it will not move on your skin.
I'm not sure how waterproof it is, I haven't tested that yet, but I ran my swatches through water and rubbed and they stayed intact.
Sadly, the Gel Liners don't deliver on the 'intense drama' that the website states. I'm not sure why the product is called Lasting Drama because Gel Liners appear quite subtle compared to M.A.C. and Bobbi Brown liners. Those looking for a BOLDBOLD look may not be completely satisfied with this, as they might find it too faint for their liking. Gel Liners can be built up, however.
I'm pleased with this product and love that the colour is not so loud because I can use it for an everyday look.
Charcoal: Website states that it's grey, I find it more of a navy blue colour. Charcoal contains finely milled shimmer and appears metallic on the skin. When worn, it looks like black or grey from far away until you get closer. Charcoal needs to be built up in sections because it doesn't goes on in one flow.
Brown: Out of all four, this one is the creamiest and glides on the best. One stroke gives a full, fluid line. The colour appears dark brown on the skin and is quite wearable. Contains no shimmer or glitter particles.
Blackest Black: A nice black shade, stationed somewhere between showy and subtle. It's a nice balance, not too heavy but not too light either. To me, it's the perfect colour. Goes on effortlessly and an even line. No
Eggplant: Gorgeous purple colour and contains shimmer. This colour also needs to be built up but it only takes a couple extra steps. Looks very nice on the lids.
Above: Charcoal, Brown, Blackest Black and Eggplant.
Blackest Black on the lids.
The brush that comes with the Gel Liners is perfect for applying their product! For once, a brush is useful (: My brush had a pointed tip and was stiff, but not too hard. Great for controlling the flow and can make thin or thicker lines.
You get a good sized amount with Gel Liner, enough to satisfy but not too much that it might go to waste. Only the tiniest amount of product gets used for a single line, so one jar can last you for two years.. or more o-o
I was scared that the lovely product may dry out on me before I could enjoy it for long. But I accidentally left a jar open for 9 hours and I came home to find it exactly as I had used it that morning. Amazing! For best quality, I still store them upside down to retain moisture.
FYI; Disclaimer; I use a primer before applying my makeup.
Advertisement in a Seventeen magazine. Hey my brush didn't have MAYBELLINE printed on it =(
CONCLUSION:
Fantastic product from the new Maybelline Eyestudio line. Colour payoff is amazing and staying power is incredible. The colour is more subtle than bold, and is suitable for an everyday look. I would recommend and definitely purchase again.
I'd love it if they came out with more colours, such as a shimmery green or a bold indigo shade.
