Alice in Wonderland Review

Alice in Wonderland Review

Plot:

In the film, Alice is now nineteen years old and accidentally returns to Underland (misheard by Alice and believed to be called Wonderland), a place she visited thirteen years previously. She is told that she is the only one who can slay the Jabberwocky, a dragon-like creature controlled by the Red Queen who terrorizes Underland's inhabitants.

Opinion:

I saw the movie Alice in Wonderland recently (more like a week ago) and thought I'd give my opinion on it. I heard from somewhere that you'd either love the movie or hate it. Well I viewed the film and I can safely say that I'm sitting on the fence about it. I thought it was quite funny and a great movie to laugh at. However with that said, I was expecting a bit more from Tim Burton and the duo Depp and Carter. I didn't really get 'into' the movie, by that I mean it didn't hold my attention as much as Sweeney Todd or another film did. Because Tim Burton directed this, I was hoping for the quirky, disturbing, creepy yet uplifting films I've come to love.

I didn't really like Mia Wasikowska as Alice. I thought that she was portrayed as quite dull and boring. I mean, you're in Underland, girl! Play it up a bit, act astounded for even a second. When you're on this amazing journey with beautiful CGI animated surroundings, you need to have more than one facial expression during the whole time. And during the movie, Alice's beauty was raved about several times. I must have bad taste, because I thought she looked sleep deprived. I wasn't a fan of her eyes.. bright green contacts would have spiked it up a bit.

I LOVED the Alice in Wonderful book by Lewis Carroll, read it everyday when I was stuck in China. Now that book was mad, a plot that twists and turns, goofy characters, spontaneous court battle and a spunky Alice who later tramples on the Card Soldiers because 'they're just a bunch of cards!'. Not this Jabberwocky slaying, mad hatter saving, stoned caterpillar nonsense. I'm aware that this movie is like a sequel to the book, but wouldn't this be all really confusing to someone who has never read the original story? The Calender scroll kinda spoiled the whole movie from the beginning. You know that's going to happen, there's no surprise in that. And who agrees with me that the dialogue was hard to hear half the time? This flick needs subtitles.

TL;DR

Good film to relax and enjoy with friends. Don't come in with high expectations and you will leave more satisfied.

Oh and during the scene where Alice tells the Hatter that she can't stay in Underland, someone in the audience yelled 'NOOOO!' and it was really funny (:

Alice outfit change! She changes clothing 5 times in the movie (: Missing the other dress that the Hatter makes for her when she shrinks.
